Biography (in English)

Jean-Denis Castro, been born in December, 1950, is a self-taught painter.

He crosses forty years of his life without painting.

During this long walking, fascinated by the cultures of the world, in particular, by the Chinese and Vietnamese cultures, he meets the traditional literary and poetic works of writers of these two peoples who, with the works of Francois Cheng and Gao Xingjian, feed over the years his progress.

In 2004, the discovery of the works of the painters and the former Chinese men and letters of Mounts and some Waters, exposed in the “Grand Palais” in Paris, wakes the passion of its youth for the paint.

Encouraged by his wife, he puts itself in the work and learns the track of the breath which walks on the paper, thanks to the works of former masters that are Wang Fu (1362-1416), Wu Wei (1459-1509), Tang Yin (1470-1523), Wen Zhengming (1470-1559), Nizan (1301-1374), Mi Youren (1074-1153), Song Zu (1525-1606), Zhao Bosu (1124-1182), Zhang Dun Fu, Shen Zhou (1427-1509), Gong Xian (1619-1689), …
 

After seven years of work persisted in the pencil, in the Chinese ink, and some tries in the watercolor, he decides, in August 2011, to present to the public a first work in the Chinese ink, following the beautiful thought of François Cheng: “any invisible beauty is vain”.

He sends a creation to the Chinese ink on paper entitled “Light and passages” in the jury of the National company of the Fine arts (School of Fine Arts), which holds her for the annual Lounge to the “Carrousel du Louvre” of December, 2011.

In February 2012, he decides to pursue this approach and to present some works on the … Web.

In March 2012, the office of the National company of the Fine arts (School of Fine Arts) proposes to the general assembly its candidacy so that he becomes an associate member of the National company of the Fine arts (School of Fine Arts).

In September, 2012, the jury of the National company of the Fine arts (School of Fine Arts) holds for the second consecutive year, a work in the Chinese ink entitled “I come on the wings of the dawn” for its annual Lounge of the “Carrousel du Louvre” of December, 2012.

At the beginning of 2013, he creates nine works which are exposed from April 23rd till July 25th, 2013 to the Red Island in Corsica.

In September, 2013, the jury of the National company of the Fine arts (School of Fine Arts) holds retain again a work to the Chinese ink on paper entitled “islands – pines on islands – and the fresh noise of the wind” for its annual Lounge of the “Carrousel du Louvre” which is kept from December 12th, 2013 till December 15th, 2013.

In spring 2013, he creates 14 works, as 14 days of the season of Suiseki, among which several are in dialogue with haïkus five, a waka and two Chinese poems of several big Japanese poets, verses of Psalms and the personal haïkus, for an exposure which will be held from Thursday, March 20th, 2014 till Wednesday, April 30th, 2014, at “Rosebud Fleuristes”, “Place de l’Odéon” in Paris. During the winter 2013-2014, he creates 10 new works in the same spirit for this exposure.

From October 23rd, 2014 till November 10th, 2014, he participates in the 17th Biennial event of the artists of the “arrondissement” 6th of Paris with his Chinese ink on painting “Closes eyes, looks, the life is a dawn”.

In September, 2015, the jury of the National company of the Fine arts (School of Fine Arts) holds again a work to the Chinese ink on paper entitled “The happy valley” for its annual Lounge of the “Carrousel du Louvre” which is kept from December 17th, 2015 till December 20th, 2015.

Since spring, 2016, two of his works are welcomed to the shop Altonna, 6 rue de l'Odéon à PARIS (6ème).

His creations in the Chinese ink are realized in the brush (French).
